Greensville County's Sanitary Landfill is located about 4 miles west of Emporia north of  U. S. Route 58 on Maclin's Creek Road.

Disposal Fee Schedule Effective July 1, 2000

 

Greensville County's Landfill accepts waste only from the County and City of Emporia unless so directed by the Board of Supervisors. As directed by City of Emporia policy, Emporia residents will be charged as per the below fee schedule for all waste they dispose of at the landfill.  Industries with special disposal needs should contact the Landfill Supervisor at (434) 348-3379 or call the County's Special Projects Coordinator at (434) 348-4205.

 

Industrial waste, municipal waste and commercial waste deposited into the landfill trench: $35.00 per ton
Household and residential waste (except tires) that was generated within Greensville County and disposed of by Greensville County residents. No charge to County residents
Clean, burnable wood products such as brush, limbs, stumps, land-clearing debris and wood products that are free of municipal solid waste, metal, rock, brick, paint and other inert debris 10.00 per ton (No charge to County residents.)
Ash $21.00 per ton
Inert debris, such clean dirt, rock, brick, broken concrete (no larger than 1 square foot) and other such material that is  free of municipal solid waste, metal and wood: No charge if disposed of in the "rock pile"
All metal items such as washing machines, hot-water heaters, along with ferrous and non-ferrous metal products, provided the metal items are not mixed with municipal solid waste, wood, paper, rock, brick, dirt and other debris:        No charge if disposed of in the "metal pile"
Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and other refrigeration equipment containing ozone-depleting compounds such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) and hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFC's) are billed as per the following:
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners disposed of by County of Greensville residents. No charge to County residents
Refrigerators and freezers disposed of by City of Emporia residents. $10 each

Air conditioners disposed of by City of Emporia residents. $12 each
Refrigerators and freezers disposed of by commercial businesses that are not certified by a certified technician as being free of Freon: $10 each
Air conditioners disposed of by commercial businesses that are not certified by a certified technician as being free of Freon: $12 each
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners disposed of by commercial businesses that are certified by a certified technician  as being free of Freon: No cost 
All tires brought to the landfill are charged at the following rates:
Tires smaller than 8.25 x 20 inches without rim: $1.00 each
Tires smaller than 8.25 x 20 inches with rim: $2.00 each
Tires 8.25 x 20 inches to 11 x 24.5 inches without rim: $3.00 each
Tires 8.25 x 20 inches to 11 x 24.5 inches with rim: $6.00 each
Tires larger than 11.24 inches:  $100 per ton

All landfill users are billed monthly by mail. No cash accepted at the landfill.

 

The following types of waste are not accepted at the landfill:

  • Free liquids, including waste oil
  • Hazardous waste
  • Solid waste, residues or soil containing more than 1.0 parts per billion of dioxins
  • Unstabilized sewage sludge or sludge's that have not been dewatered
  • Pesticide containers that have not been triple rinsed
  • Drums that are not empty, properly cleaned and opened at both ends
  • Contaminated soil classified as hazardous waste
